• Bagpipe Journey Welcome to Bagpipe Journey! This site includes unique reference material for pipers of all levels, including an exhaustive drone reed identification page. When I first started bagpiping, there wasn't much help out on the web for pipers, only a handful of excellent bagpipe sites, but not much advice nor many tips for beginners and some really basic necessary piping information was nowhere to be found. • Massed Pipes and Drums De Holland Massed Pipes and Drums (HMPD) is een stichting die jaarlijks enkele Massed Pipe Bands organiseert. Een Massed Pipe Band is een grote doedelzakband (= pipe band) die wordt samengesteld uit drummers en doedelzakspelers van verschillende pipe bands uit Nederland. Dit doen wij tijdens evenementen waar veel publiek komt en bijzondere gebeurtenissen. De deelname aan onze Massed Pipe Bands staat open voor iedereen die lid van een Nederlandse doedelzakband. William Wallace had been dead for half a millennium before they were invented, but Hey - this is Hollywood. Cut to Titanic, Leonardo di Caprio wants to show Kate Winslet a really good time. They escape the stuffed shirts in first class, dive below decks and behold, the Irish émigrés are dancing with wild abandon to the great tunes that a musician in the corner ...is squeezing from his uilleann pipes. There you have it, the two stereotypical extremes of the Celtic world, encapsulated by this single instrument.

• Kathryn Tickell Kathryn Tickell is a composer and performer whose work is deeply connected to the landscape and people of Northumbria, in particular the North Tyne Valley where many of her relatives still play traditional music. Since her first album release in 1986 she has toured extensively throughout the UK and abroad. As well as composing her own music she has collaborated with artists as diverse as Sting, Andy Sheppard and Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, to name a few. As founder of the Young Musicians’ Fund and Artistic Director of Folkestra, she has a real commitment to emerging artists in the north east of England. Kathryn Tickell is a genuine voice for Northumbrian traditional music and continues to bring her wealth of creativity to audiences worldwide.
• Liam O'Flynn There I was in the driving rain, trying to find the right turn off on the Naas dual carriage way, when I got a phone call and missed the exit, so I headed north to Johnstown and Kil so I could turn back again and call on piper Liam O'Flynn.The previous night I had been one of the hundred or so guests at the official launch of The Piper's Call (TARA CD 3037) in the Pillar Room of the Rotunda Hospital - a Palladian building by Richard Johnston 1786, (funds for which were raised from public subscription entertainments in the late 1700s). For those who know Dublin, the Pillar room is in the magnificent basement of the Gate Theatre at the the posh end of O' Connell Street by the Parnell Monument. Seamus Heaney gave a long and thoughtful speech, and eulogised on Liam's eloquence with the chanter and his ability to transmit the emotional intelligence of a tune. Charlie McCreevy, Minister for Finance, and a friend of Liam since school days, brought us a glimpse of the young world of their childhood life lived outdoors on farms and with horses. There were also fond reminiscences of Liam's father, who came up from Kerry to teach in the National School, and his mother, a Scanlon, a near relation of the Crehans of Miltown Malbay the Munster influence was there early on.

Uniquely even in this illustrious company, Rufus remains the only practitioner of his instrument, jazz bagpipes. The first Rufus Harley record astounded the jazz world, instantly dividing all comers into either the insecurely square, who greeted it as likely a novelty or put-on, or the truly hip, who smiled at both the idea and the sound. If fellow Philadelphian Sun Ra could play the cosmic Batman, certainly a sax player should have developed the jazz potential of the pipes. Understandably, the first Rufus Harley record divided jazz fans into two camps: the insecurely square, who greeted it as a novelty or put-on, and the truly hip, who smiled at both the idea and the sound. If fellow Philadelphian Sun Ra could play the cosmic Batman, certainly a soul-jazz sax player could discover the jazz potential of the pipes. And how.

• Xose Manuel Budino Spanish Xosé Manuel Budiño is always a musician to watch out for, continually pushing the envelope of his native Galician music further, often in more than one direction at once. Home shows his experimental journey continuing with top musicians as invited guests. The accordion of Basque trikitixa maestro Kepa Junkera opens the rumbustious Ollin Kaní while the jazz saxophone of Jorge Pardo (key member of Paco de Lucías pioneering flamenco group) is there for Ollos de Sal. And, naturally, the album features his close friend, the cutting-edge Galician singer and piper Mercedes Peón, who duets with herself to quite wondrous effect on the beautiful Inmaterial. Xosé Manuel Budiño loves to play around in his own recording studio and on his Mac laptop with found sounds and samples. This works blissfully with the ancient voices (from Aires da Terraí) sampled for the mesmerising Sempre Alalá. The way his pipes take up the haunting vocal melody makes the piece totally thrilling. Other times this work takes more getting used to, as with the introduction to Pedra de Abalar, which then develops brilliantly with gorgeous violin from Jacky Molard and piano from Paulo Borges.Hints of various Cuban riffs for the mysterious Vía Sacra 3 with its marimba and techno touches create a tantalising effect. Straight-up stuff such as Ortegal, with its dense banks of voices, and the closing solo, Imos Dj, are terrific stuff, as is the fluid and filmic Nacín Na Espuma. There are always touches of genius in any Xosé Manuel Budiño disc, but Home is full of them.

• Antwerp & District Pipe Band De Antwerp & District Pipe Band is één van de eerste Schotse doedelzakbands in Vlaanderen. In 1978 splitste een groep jonge en enthousiaste doedelzakspelers en drummers zich af van de Red Hackle Pipe Band. Zij wilden een hoger muzikaal niveau bereiken en de Schotse muziek in onze regio promoten. Onder leiding van pipe major Ludo Thijssen en leading drummer Peter Vandeperre ontstond de Antwerp & District Pipe Band. Er werd gekozen voor de MacKenzie tartan, later werd dit de Ancient MacKenzie. Twee jaar na de oprichting haalde de band reeds een vierde plaats in graad 4 op één van de grootste pipe band competities in Schotland, de Cowal Games. Hiermee werd de stap gezet naar de derde graad. Sindsdien is de band een vaste waarde op het competitieterrein. Om het muzikale niveau te kunnen behouden en verbeteren treedt de Antwerp & District Pipe Band sinds 1988 tijdens competities op met een a- en een b-band. Pipe major Andrew Tierney nam de leiding over de pas opgerichte b-band en bracht hen tot de top van graad 4. Twee jaar later nam Andrew het roer over van Ludo en werd P/M van de a-band. Jan De Beuckelaer werd later leading drummer. Van 1998 tot 2003 werd de a-band gesponsord door de Duitse firma Mühl en nam daardoor aan wedstrijden deel onder de naam Mühl Pipes & Drums. De opvallende blauwe kilt met de tartan van Glasgow Rangers FC kwam overeen met de bedrijfskleuren van de sponsor en werd na stopzetting van de sponsoring behouden.
• Belgian Blend pipe band Belgian Blend heeft het competitieseizoen op een fantastische manier afgesloten door de Pipe Band Championships Belgium te winnen. In graad 4, met een internationaal deelnemersveld met banden uit o.a. België, Nederland, Duitsland, Frankrijk en Denemarken, kenden zowel de twee piping judges, als de drumming judge en de ensemble judge ons de 1ste plaats toe. We mogen dus wel stellen dat het een terechte overwinning werd, dit voor sterke bands als o.a. Paris & District, Rhine Power en Beatrix.

• Red Lion Pipe band History Geschiedenis Eind 2004 ontstond bij enkele oud-gedienden van andere Pipe Bands het idee om een nieuwe Pipe Band op te richten. Vermits één van de leden een eigen zaak heeft in het Meetjesland (Maldegem) en er daar een pracht van een repetitielokaal ter beschikking is, was de keuze vrij snel gemaakt. Momenteel hebben zich een tiental pipers en enkele drummers bij de groep aangesloten om op een kameraadschappelijke en aangename manier muziek te maken. Ondanks dat het er vrij losjes aan toegaat op repetities, wil dit niet zeggen dat er niet behoorlijk wordt gewerkt en dat de standaard laag zou liggen, niets is minder waar. Integendeel, door de kennis en de uitgebreide ervaring van de leden kan de pipe band naar buiten treden met een verzorgd, hoogstaand repertorium. Bij het ontstaan van de band werd, om de leden niet op onnodige kosten te jagen, afgesproken dat ieder in de beginperiode zijn eigen keuze van tartan zou dragen zodat de band een fijne verscheidenheid aan Schotse tartans naar voor bracht. Misschien ietwat ongewoon, maar zeker niet onbehaaglijk om te zien. Sedert het voorjaar van 2008 dragen de leden met fierheid de tartan van Clan Thomson. Vermits bij de start de gedragen tartans niet echt naar één Clan verwezen, heeft de groep dan ook besloten om een neutrale naam aan de band te geven: de RED LION PIPE BAND. Dit als verwijzing naar de klauwende rode leeuw op de Schotse vlag!
• The Lowland Pipers De exacte origine van de doedelzak is wat onduidelijk. Men vermoedt dat hij ontstond in het Midden-Oosten. In het oude Egypte, 2000 jaar geleden, bespeelde men al een primitieve vorm van dit instrument. De Grieken, Romeinen en Kelten namen het over en verspreidden het tijdens hun veroveringen over gans Europa. In de middeleeuwen was het instrument, zeker bij de gewone bevolking, zeer populair. De doedelzak bestond in allerlei vormen en verscheen op allerlei vermakelijkheden als bruiloften, kermissen en optochten. Getuige van de populariteit zijn de veelvuldige afbeeldingen op de schilderijen van oude meesters als bv. Pieter Breugel. Met de opkomst van de meer gesofistikeerde instrumenten verloor de doedelzak echter aan belang. Enkel in Bretagne, Noord-Itali� en in de Balkan bleef de doedelzak in zijn primitieve vorm bestaan. Vermoedelijk werd de doedelzak door Keltische handelaars ge�ntroduceerd in Schotland. In de ruwe Hooglanden paste het instrument uitstekend bij de oorlogszuchtige clans die krijgshaftige muziek ontwikkelden. Hier werd het instrument verder geperfectioneerd. Iedere familieclan had een doedelzakspeler in dienst die hoog in aanzien stond. Regelmatig richtten de leiders van de clans colleges op voor het aanleren van doedelzakmuziek. In deze colleges werden meesterlijke composities gemaakt. Hoe beter de doedelzak bespeeld werd, hoe hoger de clan in achting steeg.
• The Wallace Pipe Band In oktober 1998 wordt ''The Wallace Pipeband' opgericht. Het merendeel van de leden is afkomstig van andere bands en hebben in het verleden hun kunnen reeds bewezen. Uiteraard, zoals menige vereniging heeft meegemaakt, bleef ook The Wallace Pipeband niet gespaard van problemen bij de oprichting. Deze problemen werden echter door de vastberadenheid en bekwaamheid van de stichtende leden op een snelle en eenvoudige manier opgelost. Onder de deskundige leiding van Pipe Major Johnny Noels groeide de band uit tot een bloeiende vereniging. Begin 2006 gaf Johnny de fakkel door aan zijn zoon Tom, die tot op heden Pipe Major is . De band vierde in 2008 haar 10 jarig bestaan.

• City of St. John's Pipe The City of St. John's Pipe Band is a pipe and drum band based in St. John's, Newfoundland. The band plays regularly throughout the year at a variety of functions. In addition to making pipers available for head tables, conference dinners and conventions, the full band may be seen at parades, festivals and sporting events. Television appearances are common when National events take place in the province, and the Band is always a favorite for outdoor summer occasions. Because of the cost of travelling, most of the performances take place in and around St. John's.

This was insomeways a frustrating year for the band as they just finished outside the prizes in some contests. In saying that, the band did clinch a first place at Moria,mid season to set us up for the Worlds. This year we came 4th at the Worlds and 3rd at the Cowal. As this was the first year in this higher grade it could not of gone any better. So bring on 2003!! Yeeeehaa!.
• Helsinki Pipes and Drums Helsinki Pipes and Drums, originally 'The MacGregor Highlanders', was founded in 1991 by John MacGregor of the clan MacIntosh. The band included some professional musicians with high musical skills in its ranks right from the start, thus achieving an average level of playing quite quickly. Under John's period as a Pipe Major, the band developed from an upstart band to a pipe band with international contacts and knowledge of the playing skills required for a pipe band. The band visited e.g. Long Island Highland Games in New York, U.S.A and formed contacts with the Scandinavian piping community. In 1997 the band changed its name to Helsinki Pipes and Drums on the eve of John's departure to Tallinn, Estonia, where he still teaches young pipers in addition to pursuing a career in the restaurant business. In 1998 John was replaced by P/M (Pipe Major) Gustav Henriksson, who gracefully led the band to its first international competition, and major concert. The band lost him in the year 2001, when he moved to Sweden. In 2002 Gustav Henriksson was replaced by P/M, Ms. Annukka Matilainen, another product of the tuition of HelPD members and guest teachers, who in turn was replaced by Eevastiina Korri in January 2006. Lineup of the band consists now of 7 pipers, two snare drummers and a bass drummer. Older band members have students under tuition. The band practises regularly, and has during the years performed in TV and several music-festivals, including:
• Litchfield Hills Pipe Band The Litchfield Hills Pipe Band is currently under the direction of Pipe Major Karl Stewart, Pipe Sergeant David Litke, and Drum Sergeant Shannon Litke. Karl studied piping with the legendary Pipe Major Thomas Shearer. We practice in Bantam, Ct at the Litchfield Parks and Recreation building on Thursday nights from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., stop by to see us in action! We are a small band , at the moment, with a BIG sound, and welcome new members! Please check back often as we are in the process of updating/upgrading our site.

Based out of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, its members hail from across Canada, the U.S.A., Ireland, Scotland and Australia. As strong as ever, the band currently has more than 30 members on its roster and is the reigning holder of the North American Pipe Band Championship.
• Simon Fraser University PB The SFU Pipe Band was the overall winner at the 2008 World Pipe Band Championships on August 16, by virtue of two outstanding performances. The band won the Medley event, was 2nd in the MSR. and, won the World Drum Corps Championship. The performances were captured on video, and are available at SFUTUBE. Congratulations to P-M Terry Lee, L-D Reid Maxwell, and all the band members who worked so hard to achieve this outstanding result. • Frans Hattink, doedelzakbouwer Met de folkrevival in de ´70 jaren maakte ik voor het eerst kennis met de doedelzak. Mijn passie lag bij de Uilleannpipes. Na een bezoek aan Dublin en de Willy Clancy Music school in Miltown Malbay (West Ierland), was ik helemaal verkocht. Ik wilde een set pipes en leren spelen. De toen al bejaarde bouwer en speler, Dan o`Dowd uit Dublin heeft mijn pipes gemaakt. Vervolgens ging ik ieder jaar naar de Music school in Miltown Malbay waar les gegeven werd door o.a. Liam O' Flynn en Paddy Keenan. Davy Spillane liep daar als jochie rond. Those were the days! Niet veel later bouwde ik zelf verschillende muziekinstrumenten (o.a de Noardske Balke, een Fries type plankciter), gaf cursussen in instrumentenbouw aan verschillende creativiteitscentra in het Noorden en deed mee aan muziekprojecten in het onderwijs. De Uilleann pipes werden ingeruild voor de doedelzakken uit Frankrijk en Vlaanderen. In deze tijd vonden tevens de eerste cursusweekenden van de toen nog prille Stichting Draailier en Doedelzak plaats.

• Piper Alvyn (België),nieuw   Schotse doedelzak, een passie Toen ik vijftien was, hoorde ik dat Schotse doedelzak leren mogelijk was in Vlaanderen. Dat was - denk ik - het moment waarop ik voor het eerst onweerstaanbare drang gepleit heb: ik vond het geluid zo betoverend dat ik mij diezelfde dag nog aangemeld heb als leerling doedelzakspeler. Sindsdien heeft de microbe mij niet meer losgelaten. On trouve des cornemuses dans l'europe entière, y compris les pays de l'est, et jusqu'en Afrique du sud. La forme et le son varient considérablement et, bien sûr, les mélodies aussi. Plus bas sur cette page se trouvent quelques exemples de sons produits par diverses cornemuses. Le point commun entre tous ces instruments est de disposer, entre l'entrée d'air (bouche ou soufflet) et le 'hautbois' d'une réserve d'air. Celle-ci a deux utilités. - D'une part elle permet d'émettre un son continu (à l'inverse, par exemple, d'une flûte ou d'un saxo). - D'autre part, cette réserve d'air est sous pression. La pression peut être plus forte que celle que l'on produirait directement avec la bouche. En effet, il serait très difficile de donner autant de pression sans interruption : les bombardes bretonnes, qui sont dans ce cas, ne permettent pas un effort - ni un son - continu. Le remplissage du sac se fait dès que nécessaire, par intermittence. Naturellement, la pression doit être contrôlée pour ne pas faire varier la hauteur ni la justesse des notes tenues. Pour être tout à fait juste, la pression doit varier suivant les notes jouées.

• Clanpipers Bei der BAG Pipe Band Competition in Machern (bei Leipzig) konnten die Clanpipers am vergangenen Wochenende erfolgreich die diesjährige Wettbewerbssaison abschließen. Durch die hervorragenden Ergebnisse nicht nur bei dieser Competition konnte sich die A-Band nach dem Sieg der 'BAG ROYAL BANK OF SCOTLAND GERMAN PIPE BAND CHAMPIONSHIPS 2007' erneut als beste deutsche Pipe-Band beweisen. • Highland Dragon Pipeband  Die Highland Dragon Pipeband aus Bielefeld, eine deutsch-britische Dudelsackband, spielt traditionelle schottische Musik aus den Highlands, dargeboten in der original schottischen Tracht. Die Pipeband besteht zur Zeit aus neun Trommlern und 18 Dudelsackspielern. Sie können uns jederzeit für Feste, Hochzeiten und Veranstaltungen buchen. Unsere Pipe Band ist auf Wachstum ausgerichtet. Unser Bestreben liegt darin, irische und schottische Pipe-Band-Musik so gut wie uns möglich zu erlernen und zu spielen. Liebhaber dieser Musik sind uns immer willkommen.
• Rhine Area Pipes & Drums Nach intensiver Lehrzeit bei Experten der Britischen Rheinarmee wurde 1977 die Dudelsackband THE RHINE AREA PIPES & DRUMS DÜSSELDORF gegründet. Ihr ist es gelungen, das schottische Traditionsinstrument “Dudelsack” bzw. “bag pipes” in Deutschland weitergehend populär zu machen Professionell ambitioniert, entwickelten die Musiker der Band schon bald ihren eigenen Sound
• Rhine Power Pipe Band Die rheinländische Rhine Power Pipe Band ist nicht nur eine der größten Pipebands Deutschlands, sondern auch eine der erfolgreichsten. Vielfach bei diversen nationalen und internationalen Wettbewerben ausgezeichnet, konnte die Band auch schon folgende Titel mit nach Hause nehmen: - diesjähriger deutscher Meister im Grad 5 - dreimaliger deutscher Vizemeister im Grad 4 - Royal Bank of Scotland German Pipe Band Champion 2007 (Grad 4) Auch bei großen Veranstaltungen wie der World Stadium Tour von André Rieu, bei der wir 2008 an den Konzerten in Düsseldorf, Leipzig, Brüssel und Paris teilnahmen, aber auch bei der Musikschau der Nationen in Hannover und der Bundesmusikparade in Hamburg – zusammen mit namhaften Orchestern der ganzen Welt – liefert die Rhine Power Pipe Band Musikgenuss auf höchstem Niveau.
• Scottish Culture Club Peine Der Scottish Culture Club Peine e.V. (SCC) wurde 1985 gegründet mit dem Ziel, die schottische Kultur und Musik einer breiten Öffentlichkeit vorzustellen. Sekundäres Ziel war, die wenige Monate zuvor gegründete Owl Town Pipe and Drum Band zu unterstützen. Die Bandmitglieder sollten mit einheitlichen Uniformen und Instrumentenausgestattet werden. . Zur Zeit hat der Verein ca. 256 Mitglieder. Neben den aktiven Mitgliedern in den Abteilungen hat der SCC auch zahlreiche passive Mitglieder, die die Arbeit des Vereins fördern wollen. Die Dart-Abteilung, deren Sprecher Kurt Lohmann ist, trifft sich jeden Mittwoch ab 19.00 Uhr in der Gastwirtschaft „Zur Sonne“ in Stederdorf. • The Alba Pipe Band Alba - das ist nicht Englisch, sondern entstammt dem Schottischen Gälisch (Gàidhlig na h-Albainn) und bezeichnet das Land der Highlands und Lowlands, des Whiskys, der Kilts und der Bagpipes im Norden Großbritanniens: Schottland. Botschafter dieses wunderbaren Landes ist die Alba Pipe Band aus Hildesheim-Neuhof. Der eine oder andere mag sich jetzt fragen, ob die Musik denn tatsächlich 'echt' ist, wenn die Band aus Deutschland kommt. Ja, sie ist echt! Eoin Ashford Leiter, also Pipe Major, ist Eoin Ashford, der die Band 1998 zusammen mit Dieter Schmidt aus Hannover gegründet hat. Eoin ist echter Schotte aus Glasgow und hat bereits mit 9 Jahren begonnen, Pipes zu spielen. Dieter Schmidt ist ebenfalls ein langjähriger Piper, der u.a. von dem bekannten Angus Macdonald am College of Piping in Glasgow, unterrichtet wurde. Zu Beginn des Jahres 2008 ist die Band insgesamt 28 Mitglieder stark, von denen aber noch nicht alle aktiv an Auftritten teilnehmen. Dieter Schmidt Das Instrument ist die Great Scottish Highland Bagpipe, auf deutsch unschön 'Dudelsack' genannt. Diese Bezeichnung hat sich unglücklicherweise zwar durchgesetzt, wird diesem Instrument aber in keiner Weise gerecht. Es wird nicht 'gedudelt', sondern anspruchsvolle und hochwertige Musik gespielt, die die Geschichte und Traditionen eines ganzen Volkes widerspiegelt.

• Liverpool Scottish Regimental The Liverpool regimental Association was formed in 1930 by an informal gathering of WWI veterans in the Lord Warden public house on London Road. It was then formalised under the chairmanship of Lt. Col. Donald Farmer VC, to foster the spirit de corps by uniting in common friendship and helpfulness all those who at the time had served with the Liverpool Scottish. Shortly after formation the Regimental Association took over responsibility from the Officers Association for the aspects of the welfare of former members of the Regiment. Today’s objectives are To promote the efficiency of the Army by fostering spirit de corps and comradeship between former members of the Liverpool Scottish and serving members of the Cheshire Regiment and by promoting the traditions of he Liverpool Scottish To relieve either generally or individually ordinary and honorary members of the Association, and former members of the Liverpool Scottish, who are in conditions of need, hardship or distress.
• Scots Guards Association The seeds were sown for the formation of the band by the late Stan Morris who as Branch Secretary and founder member, was a guest at the Welsh Guards Association, North of England Branch, Annual Dinner in 1958 where he met John Bowen and discovered that they had both played pipes in their youth. Stan invited John to join the Manchester Branch Scots Guards Association. They bought themselves secondhand pipes and together with other branch members who were ex Regimental Drummers and John Gordon (ex Regimental Piper) they practiced wherever they could - in country lanes, in the Wellington Inn after Branch Meetings, in a chicken farmers barn - until finally, by devious means, obtaining permission to use the local TA Drill Hall, where the they have been ever since. By now they had acquired, quite cheaply, a set of old rope tensioned side drums and a bass drum. Their enthusiasm was shared and encouraged by Capt. John Elliot whose faith was such that he went to Regimental Headquarters and managed to get official blessing and agreement to supply uniforms for the 'Band'. the Lieutenant Colonel Commanding authorized an initial issue for 6 Pipers and 4 Drummers and the uniform was such that it would not be confused with the Battalion Pipes and Drums. In those days the RQMS was Gordon Mitchell, who came to Manchester to measure the band members for their uniforms. The uniforms were made by up by the Regimental Tailors, and the cost of these was reimbursed to the Regiment from proceeds of engagements in less than twelve months
• Warrington Pipe Band Warrington Pipe Band has been an established part of the Warrington scene for a long time, playing for parades and functions throughout the area and making a considerable mark on the pipe band competition scene over a long period. The present Pipe Major is Bernie Leigh, who has been an active member of the band for many years and who brings a great deal of experience to the job. At present the band practises on two nights per week throughout the year. On Monday evenings the session is devoted mainly to rehearsal on practice chanters and drum pads, though later in the evening there may also be a final session on the full instruments. The Wednesday session is usually a full band practice on the floor with pipes and drums. Monday sessions are held at the Padgate Youth & Community Centre, Station Road S, Padgate, Warrington. The Wednesday sessions are held at the Peninsula Barracks, O'Leary Street, Warrington WA2 7QS. Maps showing how to find us on these days are available from the main menu.

• Luxembourg Military tattoo In September 2006, 4 friends came up with the idea to organize a Military Tattoo in Luxembourg. On 5th of May 2007 at the National Sports and Cultural Center, Coque, the 1st Luxembourg International Military Tattoo took place. After only 10 Days of promotion, the Show announced 'sold out'. It was a huge success. En septembre 2006, 4 amis avaient l´idée, d'organiser au Luxembourg un concert d'après le célèbre Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Le 5 mai 2007, après quelques mois de préparations, 4200 spectateurs ont pu suivre le '1st Luxembourg International Military Tattoo' à la 'Coque', Centre National Sportif et Culturel a Luxembourg. En 10 jours, les 4200 tickets étaient vendus. Succès fou. Im September 2006 hatten 4 Freunde die Idee, in Luxemburg ein Konzert nach Vorbild des Edinburgh Military Tattoo zu veranstalten. Am 5. Mai 2007, nach monatelanger Planung, war es soweit. Vor 4200 begeisterten Zuschauern fand das '1st Luxembourg International Military Tattoo' in der Coque, dem Nationalen Sport- und Kulturzentrum Luxemburgs statt. In nur 10 Tagen war das '1st Luxembourg International Military Tattoo' ausverkauft. Ein grossartiger Erfolg.

• Schotland Doedelzak A history of the bagpipes Scotland has a wealth and variety of music and one of the oldest and most successful of wind instruments - the bagpipe. In its origins never the property of one people or nation, it is now strongly identified with Scotland, especially in the form of the Highland Bagpipe. This powerful instrument has a long pedigree deriving from prehistoric shawms and hornpipes of Near Eastern civilisations, evolving with bag and drones in Classical and early European history, and emerging as a familiar instrument by the 12th century, significantly a renaissance period of economic wellbeing. The pipes were being played in Scotland by the 14th century and in the Highlands by about 1400. They achieved their recognisable form in the late 16th and 17th centuries, with decorated chanter and drones, when they also overtook the harp as the musical instrument of Gaelic society and assumed a traditional role in Gaelic culture; they complemented the bardic tradition of brosnachadh - encourgagement and incitement - the praise of warriors and chieftains and the lament for their passing. They were played in the Great Hall and naturally for dancing and entertainment. Dynasties of pipers emerged, such as MacCrimmons, MacKays, MacGregors, and Cummings, who performed the duties of official piper for their patrons through successive generations and who sustained and generated the music of the bagpipe until the collapse of the society which nurtured them in the wake of the Jacobite wars of the 18th century. The Highland bagpipe survived by virtue of the growth of empire and standing armies and these influences standardised the instrument and styles of playing. Piping both in Scotland and in Europe as a whole had been characterised by variety of music and playing styles, and of the instrument itself. An earlier familiarity of hornpipe, Lowland pipe, small pipe, pastoral pipe, and Highland pipe is again beginning to enter our consciousness and culture.

• Swedish bagpipes Though this is perhaps not common knowledge, even among Swedes, bagpiping has a long history in Sweden. There are several images of bagpipes and bagpipers in Swedish churches from the 14th century and onwards. So, at least the instrument has been known for a long time. There is hardly any evidence that the bagpipes were also played in Sweden in the middle ages, but there is little reason to doubt it - Sweden was under heavy cultural influence from central and western Europe at the time. Later reports, from the 17th-19th century, describe situations including bagpipes in an off-hand way, not as an exotic instrument. But only one bagpipe model survived the battle with the less demanding fiddles and accordions, to see the 20th century. In western Dalarna, bagpipes were still common in the 19th century, and the last traditional piper was heard playing the pipes as late as in the 1940's. Gudmunds Nils Larsson (1892-1949) knew only a handful of tunes, but, being the last known piper, he became an essential link to the past.
• The Uilleann Pipes The Uilleann Pipes The uilleann pipes (pronounced, as near as English orthography allows, 'illyun' - not 'yooleeun' as many would have it) are an Irish development of an instrument which is found in many versions throughout the world: Groves' Dictionary of Musical Instruments lists seventy different types of bagpipe. the uilleann pipes are generally thought to have evolved from the old Irish war-pipes (which were somewhat similar to the Scottish pipes) about the beginning of the 18th century. Their distinguishing characteristics are: a bag filled by a bellows, not a blow pipe; a chanter or melody pipe which gives a two-octave range; and the addition of regulators which can be used for accompanying the melody. The present full set of pipes comprises bag, bellows, chanter, drones and regulators.

• Clan Mackay - New Zeeland The following account of the origin of the Macky family, and probable causes of migration, was written by Neil Lloyd (Polly) Macky in 1939. The content is based on information he had to hand and expanded, greatly aided by a collection of old letters in his possession. It was originally published in 1969 for the first family reunion. The organising committee for the 1994 reunion is greatly appreciative of his marvellous effort and proud to include the first part of the history and the letters in this updated family tree.

Generaal Hugh MacKay trok met 4000 voetsoldaten, 2 regimenten cavalerie en 1200 man voor voorraden e.d. in 1689 in opdracht van Willem van Oranje van Stirling naar Blair Castle en werden vlak bij Pitlochrie in de pas van Killiecranckie in de val gelokt door 2500 Convenanters. 's Morgens vroeg om 7 uur werden de Williamites in de pan gehakt. Tja niet zo'n goede actie van die bekende MacKay zullen we maar zeggen. De clan heeft veel geleden onder de Highland Clearances in de negentiende eeuw, de zuiveringen van de engelsen onder de Schotse hooglanders. In die tijd was de clan ook op zijn zwakst, waardoor Strathnaver werd overgenomen door de Sutherlands, de huidige naam van het gebied.

• 26th Filed Regiment Pipes & Dr The Pipes & Drums: The origin of the Pipes & Drums goes back to 1947. In the early post-war years, the Commanding Officer, LCol S. C. McLennan appointed two officers to investigate the formation of a regimental band. One of these officers, Captain William Manson had been a long time member of the “Brandon Boys Pipe Band.” Captain Manson, like many of the band’s first members had long outgrown the nomenclature of “boy,” and knew that many former members would be eager to play in a senior pipe band. Recruiting these “old boys” proved to be an easy task. Within days 26th Field RCA had a regimental band. On 21 March 1949, Ottawa officially granted permission for the band’s formation and 26th Field RCA became the first and only regiment in the British Commonwealth to have a Pipe & Drum Band.

• The Royal Highland Fuseliers On the morning of 8 June 2008 in Lashkar Gah, Afghanistan HRH The Duke of York KG presented the last stand of Royal Highland Fusiliers Colours to the Battalion. This is the first time since 1856 that Colours have been presented in the 'field'; the last occasion having been in India. In a very simple but poignant ceremony conducted on the disused HLS, the old Colours were marched on with pipes and drums playing in the presence of HRH The Duke of York, Brigadier M P S Carleton-Smith OBE, Commander 16 Air Assault Brigade and 300 other members of the Battalion, Battle Group and base troops. The Colour party were received by the Deputy Chaplain General, The Revd J Woodhouse QHC CF, The Revd N Cook, Task Force Senior Padre and Padre Abeledo, Padre to the Battalion. Under the Quartermaster the new Colours were marched onto parade and after the consecration ceremony was conducted by the Deputy Chaplain General, HRH The Duke of York made a short speech to those assembled. Shortly after the new Colours were handed over to the Ensigns and following the Royal Salute were marched off parade to take pride of place in Battle Group Headquarters.

• Ian Harrison Ian Harrison grew up in Newcastle upon Tyne, England and studied cornett at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. Combining the virtuoso technique of this instrument with the traditional articulation of the bagppipe he has become one of the first modern masters of the shawm, one of the most important wind instruments of the middle ages and renaissance. With his ensemble Les haulz et les bas he was prizewinner at the international Early Music Competition at Bruges, 1993, and he was first-prizewinner in the solo bagpipe competition at St. Chartier, France in 1997. He is one of the world's most active performers and teachers of early wind instruments, playing regularly in concerts, on recordings and radio throughout Europe and beyond.

• Academie Gent Aangezien men totnogtoe in geen enkele Limburgse academie van het Deeltijds KunstOnderwijs (DKO) terecht kon voor lessen volksmuziek, diende de directie van de Genkse Academie een aanvraag in om ook in Limburg een project volksmuziek te mogen opstarten vanaf het schooljaar 07/08. In afwachting van de goedkeuring door het Ministerie van Onderwijs, kunnen geïnteresseerden zich nu al aanmelden en worden zij op een wachtlijst geplaatst. Geloof het of niet, maar op 15 maart waren dit er al 21! Vlug zijn is dus de boodschap, vermits het aantal beschikbare plaatsen niet onbeperkt zal zijn.

• Pipingschool of the Netherland Piping School of the Netherlands is een 'virtuele school', gestart door enthousiaste doedelzakspelers die er voor willen zorgen dat de opleiding tot piper beter gestalte krijgt. Piping School is geen organisatie, geen vereniging, geen commercieel bedrijf. Piping School wordt gerund door vrijwilligers die op deze manier een bijdrage willen leveren aan een beter speelniveau op de Great Highland Bagpipe in al zijn aspecten. Dit willen we bereiken door het organiseren van workshops, lessen, cursussen, examens, recitals, verdere activiteiten en natuurlijk de 'Piping School Website' . Piping School is een 'affiliated association' van het College of Piping in Glasgow en met dit College worden nauwe banden onderhouden. Onze instructeurs hebben hier hun opleiding gehad, hun examens gehaald en er wordt gewerkt met het lesmateriaal van het College of Piping. De Tutors delen 1 en 2 en de Piobaireachd Tutor. Door Piping School zal worden opgeleid voor de examens van het Institute of Piping. • St. Draailier en Doedelzak De Stichting Draailier en Doedelzak werd opgericht in 1983. Zij richt zich op liefhebbers van de draailier en de West-Europees continentale doedelzakken; zoek je dus informatie over Keltische (Schots of Iers) of Oost-Europese doedelzaktypes, dan moet je elders zijn. De Stichting organiseert regelmatig speelcursussen. Meestal zijn dat twee weekeinden, één in het voorjaar en één in het najaar plus een cyclus van maandelijkse lesmiddagen. Tijdens de weekeindcursussen wordt in groepen van gemiddeld 8 tot 10 personen onder leiding van een docent(e) gewerkt aan de verbetering van speeltechniek. Belangrijk is ook het ontwikkelen van gevoel voor bourdonmuziek en de kennismaking met diverse soorten repertoire voor doedelzak en draailier. Verder zijn er workshops gericht op ensemblespel. De docenten zijn ervaren musici die over de nodige didactische vaardigheden beschikken. De maandelijkse cursusmiddagen zijn bedoeld voor mensen die

• Dronten & District Pipe Band De Dronten & District Pipe Band komt uit het mooie dorp Dronten, in de provincie Flevoland. De Dronten & District Pipe Band doet optredens tijdens alle soorten van gelegenheden: optochten, taptoes, concerten, zakenparty's van alle formaten, beurzen en braderieën, uw verjaardag...géén probleem. Zelfs wanneer uw locatie wat kleiner is...géén zorgen...dan komen we met een kleinere groep, dat scheelt ook weer geld, niet? Daar denken wij ook aan...kwaliteit voor uw geld! De Dronten & District Pipe Band is lid van de Nederlandse Organisatie van Doedelzakbands (NOvDB) en middels deze organisatie lid van The Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association in Glasgow, in Schotland. De Dronten & District Pipe Band treedt op in een Day-Dress uniform, een keuze van uniform die normaal voor de pipe band zonder militaire achtergrond. Het tartan (kiltpatroon) en de crest zijn die van de MacLennan's. Een clan van origine uit Kintail ging, komende vanuit Ierland, in 1263 aan land op het eiland Mull in Schotland. De kleuren van het tartan zijn de ancient (oude) kleuren.

Ook spelen wij met een mini-band regelmatig op bruiloften, jubilea, besloten feesten e.d. Onze visuele uitstraling en mystieke klanken spreken veel mensen  

• 48th Highlanders of Holland Geschiedenis 48th Highlanders of Holland Pipes and Drums De 48th Highlanders of Holland Pipes and Drums, zoals onze naam volledig luidt, werd opgericht op 15 januari 1991. Een aantal enthousiaste streekgenoten nam toen het initiatief om een levend monument op te richten. Een monument, omdat ze iets terug wilden doen voor de bevrijders van Apeldoorn en omstreken.
• Batavorum Pipes and Drums Een stukje band-geschiedenis: 31 maart 2000... In een woning in de Elzenstraat in Nijmegen start een groepje mensen uit Nijmegen en omgeving met het oefenen op een practice-chanter. Zij waren voorheen lid geweest van een pipeband maar om allerlei redenen een eigen groep gestart. Na enige maanden werd de ruimte te klein bevonden en konden zij terecht in de St.Nicolaasschool op het terrein van congrescentrum Jonkerbosch aan de Burg.Daleslaan. Al snel kwamen daar mensen bij en werd besloten, een officiële vereniging op te richten. Op 4 oktober 2000 was de officiële oprichtingsvergadering en op 15 november 2000 werd de oprichtingsakte gepasseerd bij de notaris. Batavorum Pipes and Drums was een feit. Na ruim een jaar oefenen onder de leiding van de toenmalige Pipe Major Raymond de Lange, was de band in staat, een eerste optreden te verzorgen. Deze eer viel te beurt aan een buurtvereniging en het optreden vond plaats in het Vossenhol in Beuningen op 13 januari 2002.  
• Highland Valley Voor de 10e maal hebben we ons concert ten gehore gebracht. Dit keer was de zaal wat groter, dus konden er meer bezoekers in. Niet alleen het aantal bezoekers was hoger, maar ook het aantal deelnemers aan de show. De massed pipes & drums was opnieuw groter met weer meer pipers & drummers vanuit de verschillende Duitse pipe bands. Ditmaal had onze dansgroep ook aanvulling door de aanwezigheid van de McArthur dancers. Ook waren er dit keer wat nieuwe zangnummers doordat Cathie H. haar debuut had als zangeres, samen met de zangeres Liset Vrugteveen en de pianist Niels Muller.  
• Pegasus Pipes & Drums Beste bezoeker, Ik heet u van harte welkom op de website van Pegasus Pipes & Drums, een muziekvereniging met een professionele uitstraling, waarvoor een aantal zeer kundige en enthousiaste doedelzakspelers en drummers borg staan. Op de volgende pagina's van de website kunt u nader kennis maken met de vereniging, haar ontstaan en haar geschiedenis, maar ook met optredens die de band heeft verzorgd in de afgelopen jaren. De band telt op dit moment ongeveer 20 leden die wekelijks bij elkaar komen om als groep te repeteren. Daarnaast moeten de pipers en drummers ook nog de nodige tijd besteden aan individueel oefenen. Het kost dus nogal wat vrije tijd, maar bij een leuke hobby is dat natuurlijk geen probleem. Onze wens voor de toekomst is verder te groeien, dus nieuwe leden zijn altijd welkom. Het is daarbij plezierig, als u over enige ervaring op het te bespelen instrument beschikt, maar het is absoluut niet noodzakelijk. Het is mogelijk om bij ons als beginnende piper of drummer instructie te krijgen; onze Pipe Major (Dennis van Asselt) en onze Drum Sergeant (Arjan van der Boon) beschikken beiden over de daarvoor benodigde capaciteiten. Als u iets bijzonders heeft te vieren, kunnen wij u daarbij van dienst zijn met een optreden. Denk daarbij aan verjaardagen, huwelijken, jubilea, begrafenissen of zomaar, omdat het leuk is om naar doedelzakmuziek te luisteren. Ook verzorgen wij op verzoek lezingen over deze bijzondere categorie muziek en de geschiedenis daarvan.  
• The Royal British Legion  WELKOM Welkom op de website van The Pipes & Drums of The Royal British Legion, Amsterdam Branch. Alhoewel onze naam misschien anders doet vermoeden is onze vereniging gevestigd in Ede (Gld). Wij oefenen op dit moment nog in Barneveld (een kleine 15 kilometer van Ede), maar zodra wij de juiste locatie hebben gevonden verhuizen wij naar Ede. The Pipes & Drums Band is geen onbekende in de doedelzakwereld. Reeds jaren treden wij op bij herdenkingen, Taptoes, bruiloften en diverse andere gelegenheden. De laatste tijd zijn er berichten verschenen dat The Pipes & Drums of The Royal British Legion, Amsterdam Branch niet meer zou bestaan en een nieuwe naam zou hebben gekozen, maar dat verhaal is niet juist. Onze vereniging is nog steeds springlevend. Op onze website vindt u naast foto’s van onze optredens, ook informatie over The Royal British Legion. U kunt donateur van onze Band worden voor slechts € 15,00 per jaar. Met uw bijdrage steunt u onze Band zodat wij uniformen en instrumenten kunnen bekostigen. Op die manier kunnen wij mede de doelstelling van The Royal British Legion realiseren en financieel bijdragen aan het Poppy Appeal, de naam waaronder The Royal British Legion veteranen ondersteunt.
• The Seaforth Highlanders De doedelzakband is militair georiënteerd, hetgeen tot uitdrukking komt in het militaire uniform (Seaforth McKenzie regiments ruit, groene battledress jacket, militaire schoenen en groene puttees), de militaire exercitie en het historische besef van de bevrijding van Nederland door de geallieerden in 1945. Wij treden op bij diverse gelegenheden zoals herdenkingsdiensten, parades, taptoes, veteranenreünies, open dagen en evenementen voor leger, luchtmacht en marine, en vele andere. U vindt ons ook bij plaatselijke evenementen zoals bloemencorso's, jaarmarkten, en particuliere gebeurtenissen zoals bruiloften en bedrijfsjubilea. Hoewel wij kunnen optreden bij diverse gelegenheden, geven wij de voorkeur aan taptoes, parades, herdenkingsbijeenkomsten en veteranenreünies. • MacDowell Pipeband The MacDowell Pipeband, bestaat uit een groep enthousiaste men-sen die het leuk vindt om Schotse (doedelzak)muziek te maken. Daarbij wordt steeds geprobeerd om met veel plezier, een zo hoog mogelijke kwaliteit te produceren. De band is constant op zoek naar mensen die dit met ons willen delen. • The Clan MacBeth Pipe Band The Clan MacBeth Pipe Band is een doedelzakband naar Schotse traditie, gevestigd in de stad Groningen. De band, opgericht op 1 juli 1987, laat sinds 1990 haar Schotse klanken horen op allerlei feestelijke of gedenkwaardige bijeenkomsten en festiviteiten in de stad Groningen, het ommeland maar ook ver daarbuiten. Even  

• Coriovallum Pipe Band De Coriovallum Pipe Band speelt traditionele Schotse bagpipe muziek. De CPB is ingedeeld in Grade 3 van de 'Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association'. De band draagt de tartan Ancient Red Grant en treedt op in zowel 'Full Dress' als 'Day Dress'. Coriovallum is de Romeinse naam voor de stad Heerlen. Het motto dat de band steeds met verve tracht uit te dragen is: 'Pleasure in Culture'. Dit motto is terug te vinden in het bandwapen, waarin Schotse en Romeinse symbolen zijn verenigd. Sinds de oprichting in 1978 heeft de band ontelbare optredens verzorgd in de Benelux, Frankrijk, Zwitserland en Duitsland en tweemaal in Japan. Jaarlijks wordt deelgenomen aan meerdere pipe band competities op het Europese vasteland en regelmatig in Schotland. Daarbij gaat het muzikale peil in opgaande lijn, zoals blijkt uit de vele behaalde prijzen. In de zomer van 2006 won de band nog diverse prijzen tijdens competities in Schotland. Verder wordt de band geregeld gevraagd om enkele Britse militaire 'duties' in de regio te vervullen, o.a. bij NATO-festiviteiten en dodenherdenkingen.  
• Drums & Pipes Police De Police Band “Drums and Pipes” van de Regiopolitie Limburg-Zuid is ontstaan uit de op 10 oktober 1945 opgerichte Politiekapel van de toenmalige gemeentepolitie Maastricht. De politiekapel werd opgericht door politiemedewerkers, die in hun vrije tijd met geleende instrumenten muziek wilden maken. Zij droegen het normale politie-uniform. In 1970 schonk de Maastrichtse burgerij “hun politiekapel” gala-uniformen en een helm met blauwe pluim. De Politiekapel Maastricht, bestond uit een drumband en een fanfare. Zij traden in de periode 1970-1996 met succes op in diverse Europese landen waaronder België, Duitsland, Frankrijk, Engeland en Italië. Na de reorganisatie van de Nederlandse Politie in 1994 werd de Politiekapel Maastricht opgeheven en ging de kapel verder als de Politiekapel Regiopolitie Limburg-Zuid. De Kapel kreeg het officiële gala-uniform van Nederlandse Politie. De helm met blauwe pluim, het handelsmerk van de kapel, bleef gelukkig als hoofddeksel bestaan. In de periode 1994-2001 had de Politiekapel succesvolle optredens in binnen- en buitenland doch jammer genoeg nam vanaf 2001 de interesse van de leden van de fanfare om muziek te maken in hun vrije tijd zodanig af, dat de politiekapel in 2002 werd opgeheven.

• Clan Lamont Pipe Band De Clan Lamont, oorspronkelijk bewoners van Cowal in Argyllshire, bezaten land dat reeds lang begeerd werd door hun jaloerse maar sterkere buren, de Clan Campbell. In de 13e eeuw schonk Lauman landerijen aan de 'Monks of Paisley'. Sir John Lamont geridderd in 1539 had zijn landerijen verenigd met de Barony of Inveryne. Op dat moment stond zijn zetel in Toward Castle waar in 1563 ook Queen Mary als gast is ontvangen. Gedurende de uitbarsting van Montrose's Civil War campagne werd ook Lamont's territorium aangedaan, kastelen werden verwoest en Clan leden werd vermoord. De Marquis of Argyll die hieraan had meegewerkt werd in 1661 veroordeeld. Na de brand van Toward Castle, werd Ardlamont de zetel van de Clan. De Clan Crest is een open rechter binnenhand en het Crestmotto luidt vertaald:  
• Dutch Pipes and Drums De Dutch Pipes and Drums uit Tilburg is opgericht in 1953 als jeugddoedelzakband ‘De Scotjes’. De band was destijds bij iedereen in Nederland bekend van radio en televisie; o.a. de eerste experimentele opnamen voor de kleuren TV, het optreden in de eerste kleuren TV-show van Nederland in 1957, de Mounties-show en de Rudi Carell-show. In die jaren zeventig keerden diverse oud-leden terug naar de band. De leeftijdsgrens die bij de oprichting in 1953 was vastgesteld op 14 jaar (in 1968 opgetrokken naar 18 jaar) werd afgeschaft. Omdat de kleine ‘Scotjes’ nu grote ‘Schotten’ waren, besloot de vereniging in 1983 haar oorspronkelijke naam ‘De Scotjes’ te veranderen in ‘Dutch Pipes & Drums’.

• City Guards of Alkmaar The City Guards Highlanders, een pipeband naar Schots voorbeeld met doedelzakken en slagwerk. De band is aangesloten bij de NOvDB , Nederlandse Organisatie van Doedelzakbands.  
• City of Amsterdam pipe band De City of Amsterdam Pipe Band is een doedelzakband volgens Schotse traditie en bestaat uit ongeveer 25 spelende leden. De band bestaat sinds 1974 en neemt regelmatig met veel succes deel aan competities in binnen- en buitenland. Tevens verzorgt de band optredens bij de meest uiteenlopende gelegenheden. De band draagt een origineel Schots uniform, gebaseerd op het stijlvolle 'daywear'. De ruit of de 'tartan' van de kilt is de Modern McPherson. 
• First Haarlem Pipe Band Welkom op de site van wat zijn de kosten.U betaald jaarlijks ongeveer 75 euro (oefenen en les is inbegrepen) . Dit bedrag wordt jaarlijks gezamenlijk bepaald aan de hand van de te maken kosten en wensen.
• Saendistrict Pipes & Drums Welkom op de site van Saendistrict Pipes & Drums in Assendelft, Nederland. Assendelft ligt in de buurt van Amsterdam. Saendistrict Pipes & Drums is een band waarvan de leden de Schotse doedelzakmuziek met veel enthousiasme en plezier beoefenen. Tot de band behoren niet alleen de “pipers”die de Great Highland Bagpipe bespelen maar ook de drummers, zoals de tenordrummers, de basdrummer en de sidedrummers. De band telt 25 spelende leden. Voortdurend zijn we bezig ons muzikale niveau te verhogen. Daarvoor nemen we onder anderen deel aan verschillende nationale en internationale kampioenschappen. Verder kunt u ons bij diverse festiviteiten andere interessante gebeurtenissen zien en horen. De band draagt de Schotse rok (kilt) van de clan Macpherson, waarvoor wij de officiële toestemming hebben gekregen van het hoofd van deze clan.
• Saint Andrews Piping Society De Saint Andrews Piping Society is opgericht op 17 augustus 1972 en is gevestigd in Zaandam. Wij verzorgen o.a. doedelzakdemonstraties en optredens voor de meest uiteenlopende gebeurtenissen, van demonstraties op scholen en verjaardagen of het geven van één doedelzakles op een vrijgezellenparty, tot het spelen op de doedelzak n.a.v. een geboorte, bruiloft of het stijlvol muzikaal begeleiden op de doedelzak van een uitvaart. • Concord Pipe Band De Concord Pipe Band en dansgroepen zijn al jaren toonaangevend in de Nederlandse doedelzakwereld. Door vele goede resultaten bij wedstrijden en veel leuke optredens in binnen- en buitenland kan de band, en de dansgroepen, zich met recht succesvol noemen. De band is in 2006 door de Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association gepromoveerd naar graad 3. In 2007 is ons complete out-fit vervangen en onze website vernieuwd. Als nieuwe tartan is gekozen voor Great Scott. 2008 is voor concord geweldig begonnen met de release van onze tweede cd genaamd Tuianti. De cd is in samenwerking met de Hengelose muziekschool geproduceerd en kost € 10,- exclusief verzendkosten. Op de site kunt u een cd bestellen. Steun de band en geniet van deze geweldige cd. • Lowland brigade pipeband Algemeen Onze pipe band (doedelzakband) bestaat uit zeer enthousiaste spelers die zich allen ten doel stellen de Schotse doedelzakmuziek op traditionele wijze ten gehore te brengen. Daarom neemt de Zwolse pipe band, naast het doen van de meest uiteenlopende optredens, regelmatig deel aan pipe band competities. De muzikale leiding van de Lowland Brigade pipe band ligt in de handen van pipe major Ben Dijsselhof, pipe sergeant Freek Nooter en leading drummer Hans Bredenoort. Leerlingen Ook de Lowland Brigade Pipe Band kan niet zonder leerling-spelers! Zij vormen een welkome aanvulling binnen het pipe- en het drumcorps. De opleiding voor deze leerlingen is binnen de pipe band zelf ontwikkeld en de leerlingen worden begeleid door deskundige en ervaren pipers en drummers, die er een persoonlijk belang in stellen hun kennis en enthousiasme over te dragen op de leerlingen.  
• Manitoba Dragoons Memorial Pip Welkom op de website van de XII Manitoba Dragoons Memorial Pipes & Drums, welke officieël is opgericht op 1 september 2008 te Hardenberg. Op de site kunt u onder andere lezen over het ontstaan van deze pipeband, de samenstelling van de band en het wel en wee. De Canadese afdeling van de XII Manitoba Dragoons (waarvoor een herdenkingsmonument in Ommen staat) heeft in 1945 Hardenberg en omstreken bevrijd. ‘Wij willen de eer hooghouden van de jongens, die het leven hebben gegeven en voor diegene die nog in leven zijn om die in onze gedachten te houden. ‘We will remember them‘ U kunt al voor slechts 15 euro per jaar donateur worden van onze band waarmee u de band steunt. Tevens kunnen wij altijd enthousiaste leden, ervaren of onervaren, gebruiken. Neem gerust contact op als je een keer wilt komen kijken.

• Saint Anthony Pipe Band De doedelzakvereniging Saint Anthony Pipe Band uit Wijk bij Duurstede is al sinds 1977 actief in de muziekwereld. Opgericht als schoolband van de plaatselijke MAVO begon de band met leden van rond 15 jaar met diverse optredens in binnen- en buitenland. Sinds 1987 is de vereniging ook open voor leden die geen leerling van de MAVO zijn en kent een vaste groep enthousiaste leden uit diverse delen van Nederland. De doelstellingen van de band zijn: Het uitdragen van de Schotse cultuur door middel van muziek en kleding. Dat betekent dat de traditionele Schotse muziek wordt gespeeld op originele doedelzakken en drums. Dat alles in traditioneel schotse kleding met natuurlijk als kenmerk: de kilt. Dit alles wordt ook uit Schotland geïmporteerd om er zeker van te zijn dat met echte authentieke materialen gewerkt wordt.  

• Inter Scaldis pipes and drums Welkom op de site van Inter Scaldis pipes and drums, de eerste doedelzakband in Zeeland. De band is opgericht in 1984. Als een soort “levend monument” voor de Schotse oudstrijders die in 1944 Walcheren hebben helpen bevrijden. Vanaf de oprichting is het contact met het Schotse regiment “The King’s Own Scottish Borderers” erg hecht geweest. Zodanig dat, vanaf 2006, de band officieel de cap-badge van dit regiment overal ter wereld mag dragen. Op deze site kunt u informatie over Inter Scaldis pipes and drums vinden

• Red Rose of Lochbuie The Red Rose of Lochbuie Welkom op de officiele website van 'the Red Rose of Lochbuie Pipes & Drums' officieel erkende clan pipeband van de Clan MacLaine of Lochbuie en Clan Chief Lorne MacLaine of Lochbuie.  
• Saint Andrews Pipe Band De Saint Andrews Pipe Band Rotterdam, een Nederlandse doedelzakband, momenteel bestaand uit 9 spelende pipers, 4 spelende drummers en 9 leerlingen pipers en drummers. De band is op 1 september 1981 opgericht en treedt op in originele Schotse kledij. De tartan van onze kilt is 'Modern Hunting Stewart'. Wat doen we? Traditioneel Schotse doedelzakmuziek spelen. Verzorgen van de muzikale omlijsting van allerhande gebeurtenissen en evenementen. Opleiden van enthousiaste mensen die het bespelen van de Great Highland Bagpipe en/of drums willen leren om met de band op te treden. Hoe zijn we te bereiken? • The Hague Highland Pipe Band Welkom bij The Hague Highland Pipe Band! De 'The Hague Highland Pipe Band' (HHPB) is gevestigd in Den Haag . De band komt elke dinsdagavond bij elkaar in het Hofstad Lyceum aan het Colijnplein 9 te Den Haag. De repetities beginnen om 20:00 uur en duren tot 22:30. De HHPB treedt op tijdens optochten, braderieën, huwelijken, begrafenisssen, etc., zowel in binnen- als in het buitenland. In voltallige bezetting bestaat de band uit pipers en drummers, maar er kan ook in kleinere groepen opgetreden worden, tot aan een solo-piper toe. De HHPB treedt op in Full Dress, het militaire uniform zoals dat gedragen wordt door de Schotse regimenten. De band heeft altijd plaats voor nieuwe spelers: zowel ervaren spelers als leerlingen zijn van harte welkom, mannen zowel als vrouwen. • Pipeband.nl De eerste enige onafhankelijke pipe band (doedelzakband) website voor Nederland en Belgïe. Met onafhankelijk bedoelen we dat PipeBand.nl een initiatief is van een aantal mensen in de Nederlandse/Belgische/Schotse pipe band wereld, ieder speelt bij zijn eigen band. PipeBand.nl is dus zelf géén band en verzorgt ook geen lessen. • Pipers' & Pipe Band Society of The PPBSO The PPBSO administers the Piping, Drumming and Pipe Band contests at various highland games throughout Ontario. Several of these contests have special distinctions attached to them, such as North American Championship, Canadian and Ontario Championship. As well, Society branches hold many smaller competitions throughout the fall, winter and spring months. The George Sherriff Invitational, The Agnew-Harrison Invitation, and the Livingstone Invitational are prestigious events for solo competitors that the PPBSO takes pride in presenting each year.

Today, WUSPBA consists of four branches and over 50 bands with hundreds of solo pipers, drummers, and drum majors. • Catamount Pipe band Welcome! Catamount Pipe Band is a not-for-profit organization who's mission is to enhance the community by providing information and experience with regard to Scottish music. The band will provide an opportunity for all interested members of the community to participate within the group. Participation will be at a level that is consistent with members playing ability and interest.

We are very lucky to be the only juvenile band in the Lothian and Borders area to have seven Grade One tutors, most of whom play in the renowned Lothian and Borders Police Pipe Band. • George Watson's College Welcome George Watson's College Pipes and Drums have three bands of varying ability under the leadership of Pipe Majors Iain Simpson, Ross Harvey and Drum Majors Mick O'Neill and Jim Clark. They are assisted by two part time teachers. There are currently over 200 children being taught either piping or drumming at Watson's. Competing all over the UK at Juvenile and Novice Juvenile level, the Pipes and Drums are now one of the most successful teaching establishments in the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association. They are current Scottish Champions in the Juvenile grade. They have also won the Champion of Champions award on numerous occasions. The Pipes and Drums perform mainly at school functions however are in huge demand to play at other events including The Great Scottish Walk, Concerts and other Corporate Events. They have also travelled to various countries, performing in Canada, Japan, Belgium and Russia where they were extremely well received. In recent years the bands have had tremendous success in the competition arena.

• Strathclyde Police Pipe Band Welcome to the official Web site of Strathclyde Police Pipe Band - 12 times winners of the RSPBA World Pipe Band Championships. From the band's earliest roots as the Burgh of Govan Police Pipe Band through to it's present day identity, competitive success at the highest level has always been a key element of the exemplary reputation harboured by the band on behalf of Strathclyde Police. The band is also enjoyed by the communities of Strathclyde who attend the numerous public engagements in which the band performs throughout the force area. As one of only a handful of professional pipe bands worldwide, the membership of Strathclyde Police Pipe Band is primarily made up of operational police officers who are based with the Pipe Band Unit stationed in the City Centre of Glasgow. The present strength of the band is augmented by several civilian guest players.
• Ullapool Pipe Band & Highland Before The Pipe Band Pipe Major Norman Gillies was a soldier serving in the Glasgow-based Light Infantry, while there he earned the reputation of being one of Scotland's leading pipers. In 1975 during April he was appointed as the first instructor for the schools of North West Ross-shire. It did not take long before he had dozens of pupils learning the chanter in Ullapool, Achiltibuie, Badcaul, Poolewe, Aultbea and Gairloch with a high number of the children graduating to play full-sized adult bagpipes.

The parade (also known as Millenium Pipes)included the Massed Pipes and Drums of the Edinburgh Tattoo, Scottish Power Pipe Band, Strathclyde Police Pipe Band as well as solo champions Roddy MacLeod and Gordon Walker.
